I know that your to-do list for the new year is probably quickly getting longer and longer. Website maintenance should be at the top of your list, and one very important detail that is often overlooked, at this hectic time of year, is updating your copyright year in the footer of your website.
If you pop onto your website you might notice that your copyright year still says 2017. Gah! Does it still say 2016 or maybe even 2015? I know that you have been busy building your business and it might not seem like a big deal, that this task has been overlooked, but it’s that small attention to detail that always shows your readers, guests and potential clients that you take maintaining your website seriously, which in turn means you are in business for real!
While not all WordPress themes are built equally, my go-to theme has a special place to insert a beautiful piece of copyright code that automatically updates. Now this means one less thing for you to think about when the calendar flips to a new year. Here’s the code that I use for my builds:
© Copyright <script>document.write(new Date().getFullYear());</script> | Company Name| All Rights Reserved
I hope it works for you as well as it has worked for me! And I wish you a very happy, healthy, and prosperous new year!
